Volunteering opportunities

Volunteer Millers

To work alongside our current miller, you will receive full training to learn the rare skill of operating and maintaining the mill to help visitors gain a better understanding of how the mill works as well as producing flour. You will have experience in machinery/engineering and be practically minded and l feel at ease talking to our visitors who are eager to find out more about how it works.

Tour guides

To support the interpretation of the Eling Tide Mill Experience and add to visitor enjoyment and learning by leading engaging tours of the ETM for a range of visitors. You should have a keen interest in the local history of our area, excellent communication and organisation skills.

Front of house roles

To greet customers/visitors in a polite and friendly manner, offering an efficient customer reception service for either the Eling Tide Mill Experience and Gift Shop or Visitor Centre. As one of the first points of contact with visitors this role is vital in ensuring customers feel welcome and able to find their way around the site. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well organised, be flexible and adaptable.

Flour packers

To weigh and pack Eling Tide Mill flour for sale within the mill shop itself and for distribution to other flour outlets, both wholesale and bulk quantities using the appropriate Tide Mill Flour bags. You may also help with distribution of flour.

Activity support & outdoor learning volunteers

These two roles, support the interpretation of the Eling Tide Mill Experience and add to visitor enjoyment and learning by delivering/leading activities with a range of visitors both indoors outdoors. These roles are vital in ensuring visitors receive a warm welcome, are engaged, well looked after and have a positive visit. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to forward plan and be adaptable.
